Privacy Policy

1. The short version

We collect what we need to make Voilà LOCAL work, and we don't sell your data. We are a connection platform — we don't process payments between you and local businesses, so we never see your credit card or banking information for those transactions.

2. What we collect

From all users

  • Account info: Name, email, phone (optional), city/zip
  • Login records: Timestamp, IP address (for security)
  • Device info: Browser, mobile device type (for analytics)
  • Cookies: Session cookies (essential), analytics cookies (with consent)

From Locals (consumers)

  • Location: GPS or zip you enter (only used to show nearby deals; never sold)
  • Activity: Listings viewed, saved, claimed; wishes you make; businesses you follow
  • Reviews you write: Public, attributed to your first name + last initial only

From Businesses

  • Subscription billing: Stripe processes this (we don't store your card)
  • Listings you post: Public on the platform
  • Booking confirmations: When a Local claims your deal, we share your business email/phone with them

From Affiliates + Creators

  • Tax info (W-9): Required for payouts over $600/year
  • Stripe Connect ID: For receiving payouts (we never see your bank account directly)
  • Performance data: Sales, commissions, audience metrics

3. What we DON'T collect

  • ❌ Your credit card or bank info for deal redemptions (you pay businesses directly)
  • ❌ Your social security number (unless you're an affiliate/creator earning over $600)
  • ❌ Your contacts, phone book, or photos
  • ❌ Your data for sale to third parties

4. How we use your data

5. Who we share data with

Service providers (data processors)

  • Supabase — our database
  • Netlify — our website hosting
  • Resend — sending transactional + marketing emails
  • Twilio — sending SMS
  • Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions + payouts
  • Google Places — territory mapping for affiliates

Each of these has their own privacy policy. We have data processing agreements with them.

When required by law

  • Court orders, subpoenas, regulatory requests

Never

  • We do not sell your personal data to advertisers, brokers, or third parties.

6. Your rights

If you're in the US

  • See what data we have on you (email jennifer@voila-local.com)
  • Request deletion of your account
  • Opt out of marketing emails (every email has unsubscribe)

If you're in California (CCPA)

  • Right to know, delete, and opt-out of "sale" (we don't sell)
  • We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16

If you're in the EU (GDPR)

  • Voilà LOCAL operates from Florida, USA. By using the platform, you consent to your data being processed in the United States.
  • You retain your GDPR rights to access, rectify, erase, and port your data
  • Email jennifer@voila-local.com for any data request

7. Data retention

  • Account data: kept while your account is active + 90 days after deletion
  • Transaction records (subscriptions, payouts, intents): kept for 7 years (tax/legal)
  • Reviews you've written: stay public unless you delete them
  • Email logs: 1 year

8. Cookies

We use:

  • Essential cookies: Login session (can't be turned off)
  • Analytics cookies: Anonymized usage stats (you can opt out)
  • Preference cookies: Your location, category preferences

We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

9. Children

Voilà LOCAL is not for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover we have, we delete it.

10. Security

  • All data encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (Supabase encryption)
  • Two-factor authentication available for businesses, creators, affiliates
  • Regular security audits

We are not perfect — if a breach happens, we will notify affected users within 72 hours.

11. Changes to this policy

We'll email you 30 days before any material changes. Minor updates (typos, clarifications) post here without notice.
